General Assembly Meeting
The Association has held its General Assembly meeting On April 15/2008 and has - elected the following to be members of the executive board for a three year term.

Following the execution of their new assignment the executive board members have signed memorandum of understanding with GTZ – IS and Grade – 1 Contractors on may 29/2008 and June 14/2008 at the Center of Excellence for Engineering and Sheraton Hotel, respectively. The main objective of the MOU with GTZ – IS is to see the association involve itself in the expansion of the capacity building program so as to help the local contractors benefit from the program through trainings at different level. The signatories of the memorandum were the Chairman of the Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia and the Director of the ECBP.
The memorandum of Understanding with Grade – 1 Contractors Association was singed by the Chairmen of both associations in the presence of the Minister of Work and Urban Development, Dr. Kassu Ilala and Minister for the Development of Cooperatives in the prime minister’s office, Ato Hailemariam Desalegn. Both associations have agreed to create close relationships to work together to enhance the rapid growth of the Construction Sector and also make all possible efforts in alleviating problems that the sector encountered.

| Ethio-Con 2007 |

The 4th Ethio-Con 2007 International Construction Exhibition has been conducted at the Addis Ababa Exhibition center from Nov. 29 - Dec.5, 2007. Nearly one hundred exhibitors have participated in the exhibition. The exhibition has been officially opened by His Excellency Ato Anbessa Wondum Mamo, Director for the construction capacity building program in the Ministry of capacity Building.
Exhibitors were composed of contractors, architects, construction material producers, and suppliers, big company representatives, new technology exhibitors from Sudan, Turkey, China, Germany and other foreign technical service corporations etc.
In the course of the exhibition, a half day symposium that has a vital importance to the construction sector in particular and the private sector in general has been conducted and paper has been presented on different issues with wide discussion carried out amongst participants. The Association is to introduce its own newspaper that would focus on the construction sector to be published twice a month. |

A committee to undertake the responsibility of preparing a ground work with Ethiopian Road Austhority on the full participation of the local contractors in a road construction work has been formed on the part of the association. A good gesture has been seen from ERA to give its support to this task force and has discussed many issues with the committee members on its plan on how to assist the association members in building their capacity to do their part on the road construction.
The Association has finalized the selection of a coordinator to carry out the fourth Ethio-Con 2007 International Construction Exhibition that would be held from Novem.29-Dec.5,2007 at the Exhibition Center ,with a motto 'Unity to the Sector's Development.A good number of foreign and local construction material producing companies and their representatives, major stakeholders, consultants, architects, contractors and government offices are expected to participate in large numbers.

The Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia is organizing an International Construction Exhibition at the Addis Ababa Exhibition center from November 30 - December 6/2006. This exhibition which is the second of its kind is expected to host over two hundred local and international contractors as well as various stakeholder participants.
Sponsorship and participation letters are being distributed to embassies, manufacturing companies and enterprises.
The secretariat office of the Association has been frequently visited by different experts from the World Bank, GTZ, DED, IFC and other private consulting advisory companies. They have held quite an executive discussion with the executive committee of the association as well as the Manager of the Secretariat of the Association on the problems of the construction sector, progresses that have so far been made by the association towards alleviating the indecencies that the contractor encountered and other issues related to the sector as a whole.
Re-engineering and quality management training program that was designed only to grade- 1 and 2 contractors has now been extended to grade 3 contractors and selections are carried out to take over the thirteen university college building construction work in different regions to conduct the training program. The next phase of selection for the same grade contractors is expected to take place soon.
The German organization DED /German Development service/ has promised to assign an expert in our own office to assist in advisory and over technical matters. He is a person who has a wide experience in advising and assisting sectoral associations. |

Constitutive Conference of the African Federation of Construction
Contractor Association / AFCCA! was held in Cairo
from March 7 - 8 2006.
Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia /CCAE/ through
its V/chairman has participated in the 1st meeting of the founding
members of the African Federation for Construction Contractors
Association that was held in Cairo from March 7 - 8.
• The
Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia (CCAE) has
been elected as member of the National Standard Technical Committee
in the standard certification council under the auspices of
the Quality and Standard Authority of Ethiopia.
•Strong
effort is being made by the Association in seeking permanent
solution for the unresolved
price escalation refund issue. A very deep and through
study by a consultant based on price variations in the
last three years have been completed and the report was
submitted to the prime minister's office as well as other
concerned government bodies.
•
According to the list that the association received from the
Ministry of Infrastructure , there are about 1391 registered
contractors in the country. There are contractors who aren’t
registered by the ministry but rather work under their licenses
from ministry of trade. The type of contractors are of building,
General, Road and Special and the associations planning to
double its members by the coming one year.
• The Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia
has signed a joint memorandum of union with the Turkish Contractors
Association.
• The CCAE has become a member of the Ethiopian Employers
Federation.
• CCAE is now on a rapid move towards creating close
collaboration with other foreign Construction Contractors
